American futurist Alvin Toffler said, “The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn.” And so it is with these unprecedented times… being prepared and ready, while also remaining full of hope and expectancy for whatever church will be in the months and years to come.

This new reality created by the virus won’t go away in a few weeks, or even a few years. We can no longer afford to think about the future with the same mental models that worked in our past. We must think and act less like centralized hubs and more like networks – a distributed web. Here are some just a few of the conversations happening in our world in regards to church now and in the future:

  • Have you begun to rethink your mission?
  • What is church now? No, really… what the heck is it?
  • Do we continue to meeting online when we reopen?
  • How do I lead a team in-person AND remotely? DO I need to?
  • Do I have a stable financial plan? Is it a completely new one?
  • Is there a Plan A, B, C and D for most everything?
  • “I have no idea how to do what I need to do…” again…
  • Have I already begun to settle – satisfied with successes?
  • Am I letting burnout make decisions for me?
  • Can I be done innovating??
