What Shapes a Life S.E.E. Meta 3

What Shapes a Life

SEE Metaphysics 3

Your thoughts matter. They are NOT the only thing shaping your life for sure.

Unity metaphysics has spent more than a century exploring the ways consciousness participates in experience. That is an important question.

Yet it is NOT the the only question.

Before we consciously thought anything, we already had bodies, families, histories, cultures, relationships, opportunities, losses, and a world being shaped by other people’s choices. A life does not emerge from thought alone.

So what does shape a life?

In this two-part course, we will revisit foundational Unity ideas—including Absolute and Relative, Divine Ideas, Principle, consciousness, the I AM, and spiritual powers—while placing them inside the larger ecology of an actual human life.

We will explore how attention, interpretation, imagination, body, history, culture, circumstances, relationships, resources, choice, and chance all participate in the experiences we have and the lives we create.

This is not a course about controlling outcomes or blaming ourselves for circumstances. It is an exploration of real agency inside a complex, embodied, relational life.

Together we will explore:

  • the difference between an event and the meaning we give it;
  • Absolute and Relative without denying human reality;
  • Divine Ideas as possibilities that can take many forms;
  • how consciousness influences experience without causing everything;
  • the difference between responsibility and blame;
  • Faith, Imagination, Understanding, Will, and Love as interdependent capacities;
  • why no spiritual power—or single factor—shapes a life alone;
  • cultivating conditions rather than demanding outcomes.

Metaphysics is not learning how to make Reality obey us.

It is learning how to participate in Reality more consciously.

We participate. We do not control.

This course fulfills SEE Metaphysics 3 credit. No previous metaphysics course is required.

Pilgrims with Purpose™ is a global program of sacred service I developed to inspire and empower people to be active in the world in unique and sustainable ways. Every trip includes time spent touring the country, spiritual connection among our group, and compassionate action – engaging volunteers in working alongside local people in a capacity that truly serves those in the community. Together we learn to engage the stranger, to labor with, laugh with and learn about each other in order to honor the interconnectedness of all life.
